"Change the voices in your head, make them like you instead..."

We are our biggest critics.  No one will ever be harder on you than you are on yourself.  But do we have to be mean?  I know I'm guilty of it.  I always think the best in others but the worst in myself.  There's enough negativity in the world without dumping it on myself.  A person can only do so much before they fail.  A person can only take so much before they fall.  I won’t let anyone else break me, so why do I allow myself?  We are our worst enemy.

“Why do we do that? Why do I do that?”

We all do it. We all have self-doubt. And that's okay. It keeps you humble. And the great thing is, it doesn't last long. Reading a great book, or watching a great movie, could be all you need to get motivated all over again. I know I've said it before, but look at Michael Jordan. He didn't even make the high school basketball team. But he didn't give up. He practiced and practiced and practiced until one day watching him on the court was like magic. We are all capable of this. Don't. Ever. Give. Up.

Self doubt is the downside to writing. I think all writers are in a desperate search for validation that what we do is valued by others. I don't care about seeing my name in print (ok I lie, but I don't care enough to selfpublish). I really just want people to read what I have written and like it.

I can be really hard on myself, and set my expectations low.

It numbs the pain at times but it can also be a hindrance on my writing.
