What's Up Wednesday?! In Which I Read A Lot Of Books!

What's Up Wednesday is a weekly blog hop created by Jamie Morrow and Erin Funk as a way for writers to keep in touch by sharing what they've been up to. Be sure to link up on their site if you want to join in on the fun.

What I'm Reading

I did a lot of reading this past week/weekend. Finished my reread of The Summer Series. The second book just breaks my heart. The third ends perfectly (in my opinion) but the second is by far my favorite. I also read IF I STAY and WHERE SHE WENT. They were both incredible but I enjoyed WHERE SHE WENT the most. Though both are great, it's my favorite of the two. Finally finished the audio book of THE TREATMENT. It was SO good. Both books in that series kept me on my toes. And thanks to two awesome bookish friends, I've started I'LL GIVE YOU THE SUN. Only 30 pages in and I'm already in love.

What I'm Writing

I'm up to 52K. You can see more of what I'm writing on my Ready? Set. Write! post here.

What Inspires Me Right Now

Jaime and Erin had an awesome idea about using this section to say what inspires us and what we love about YA. I thought it was a great idea so I'm getting on board.

I think what I love most about YA is the community. The writers and readers and bloggers and vloggers. We're all in this together. You pick at us, try to make us feel ashamed for no reason at all, we push back, together.

What Else I've Been Up To

Reading. A lot. Writing. Every day. Work...and more work. Spending time with family and friends. One of those weeks that everything and nothing happened.

What have you been up to?

  2. I love everything by Gayle Forman. Just One Day and Just One Year were also so good and I just downloaded Just One Night- can't wait to read it!

  4. I've been reading at the pool, which I love. It's not the beach, but its also not a couch ;)

    1. A pool is just as nice! A couch is good, but nothing beats reading outside.

  5. 52K is awesome!

And I LOVED If I Stay. I haven't read the other books yet but I'll get around to them. I'm jealous that you are reading I'll Give You the Sun. Jandy Nelson's writing is gorgeous and her first novel The Sky is Everywhere blew me away.

I too am inspired by the YA community. It's made up of some of the most kind and supportive people in the world. If people only knew how wonderful everyone apart of the YA community truly were, I'm sure they wouldn't be so quick to judge.

I hope you have a productive week!

    1. I am very lucky to have some awesome bookish friends. Hope you enjoy the other books.

I agree, such a supportive community.

      Thank you!!

  6. Ooo, I love your What Inspires Me section! I totally have to agree. I really don't think there's this same sense of support and togetherness in the adult writing community. Maybe, but I doubt it. I really need to reread book 1 in the Summer series so I can read the other two. I have all three of them, so I have zero excuse. That's definitely going on my Summer TBR list. And congrats on reaching 52K! That's fantastic, Mandie! I think I'm sitting somewhere around the 40K mark, so I'm not too terribly far behind. Hope you have a wonderful week! :D

    1. I have to agree, I don't think they're as close as we all are.

Yes!!!! Read the summer series ASAP!!! So so amazing.

      Yay for 40K (that rhymed...hehe).

      Thank you.

  7. I'm such a dummy for not buying WHERE SHE WENT at the same time as IF I STAY. I guess that gives me an excuse to go book shopping again sometime soon though, right? I love what you said about the YA community. You know, that's exactly how I felt when I went to see THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. There was a huge line up to get in, and it was obvious the crowd was full of YA fans. I couldn't help but think "These are my people." Have a great week, Mandie!

    1. Yes! Perfect excuse. If I Stay is great but to me Where She Went was even better.

That sounds like a good crowd! We were a little late so didn't get to interact, but still a fun night.
