TGIF {17}

TGIF is a fun post created by Ginger at GReads.  It’s to recap what you’ve posted about through the week and Ginger asks a fun book related question.

Friday, Jan. 6th - Reading Resolutions: What are some of your reading goals for the new year?

I didn't start a reading goal until March last year. After getting through 10 books on a week long vacation, I set it at 50. By November I had reached 50 and with another week vacation I passed 55, so I bumped my goal up to 60. I finished the year out at 61. This year I'm not going to go as high, I'll still have vacation, but I've got actual plans this year (if they don't fall through). I'm going to set it for 30. If I reach it early, I'll see about changing it.

The next is to get through the Post-Apocalyptic/Dystopian Challenge. It's to read 15 Post-Apocalyptic/Dystopian books between June 27th 2011 to June 27th 2012. Unfortunately the challenge started after I read a TON of Dystopian, so I had to find more. Darn, I know...haha (love this sub-genre). So far I've got through 5 (Matched, Crossed, Hollowland, Hollowmen, and Shatter Me). There are a TON of Dystopian books coming out in the next few months that'll help bump up my numbers: A Million Suns, Fever, Pandemonium, Insurgent, and Surrender. Still need to make it through 5 more. I do have the entire Uglies series (4) and Blood Red Road on my book shelf so I'm hopeful!

I also want to try and read more books by new authors. And not debut authors, but authors that have been around but are new to me. Like John Green. I've heard of him and his books, but never read them. I'm fixing that this week with "Looking for Alaska" and "Will Grayson, Will Grayson". Last year it was Melina Marchetta, Jennifer Echols and Sarah Dessen. A few more I plan to add this year are Jenny Han (I have 2 of the Summer series by her), Lisa McMann (I have Cryer's Cross and the Wake Trilogy), and Scott Westerfeld (I have The Uglies series and the first two books in the Leviathan series).

What are some of your reading resolutions?

  1. Ooh yes to "new to me" authors. I did pretty good on that last year and would like to continue.

  3. I like how manageable your resolutions are! And I think the "new to me" authors thing is pretty darn smart. I enjoy doing that sometimes (like discovering I liked John Green last year) and maybe I'll get to do a few this year :)
