TGIF {9}

TGIF is a fun post created by Ginger at GReads.  It’s to recap what you’ve posted about through the week and then Ginger asks a fun question.

Friday, Sept. 23rd - Reading Challenges: Did you sign up for any this year? How has your progression been?

I have signed up for the Post-Apocalyptic/ Dystopian Challenge reading challenge hosted by books ahoy. It's the first one that I've done and when I saw Melanie post it I HAD to join. Dystopian is my favorite type of book to read at the moment and I can't get enough. Sadly I've only read one since the challenge started (Amanda Hocking's Hollowland, The Hollows book one) because I had I read about five in the month or two before it began. I'm going to fix this problem in the next few months as The Hollows book two, Crossed (will read Matched before Crossed comes out), & Shatter Me are released in October and November. I'm anxious for the sequels to Across the Universe (A Million Suns), Divergent (Insurgent), Delirium (Pandemonium), Enclave (Outpost), Possession (Fugitive), Wither (Fever). I've also got The Uglies series and Blood Red Road in my possession to read as well.

I also set up my own 2011 Challenge on Goodreads of 50 books this year. Right now I have 42 out of 50 read  and am 1/2 way through my 43 (I'm six books or 11% ahead of schedule). I did get behind a few months ago and was at the point where I had to read 5 or 6 books a month for the rest of the year, but now I'm on track. Next year I might end up lowering my goal. If all I had to do was read, that would be one thing. But working full time and having an almost four year old doesn't leave much reading time. Plus I split my "me" time with writing. But we'll see when the time comes.

  1. You have got a ton of awesome books coming out soon! There are just not enough hours in the day otherwise I would have joined that challenge. Everyone knows I need to read a bit my Dystopian ;) You'll get there Mandie, no worries!

  3. I so thought I'd be able to meet my goal of 100 books this year, but I'm not so sure anymore :( this Fall has kicked me in the butt. With school & work full-time, my reading time has taken a back seat. Plus I've been in a major reading slump. Only the really, really awesome books hold my attention at the moment.

  4. I seriously can't believe I missed the Dystopian Challenge. Those are my favorite reads! I would have nailed that one for sure. Oh, well. There's always next year. :) Good job on your goals. I have a full-time job and a three-year-old, so I know how hard it is to find the time to read, blog, and write. You're doing a great job, though!

    Happy TGIF!!!

  5. That's a great list of books coming out! I'm not a big dystopian fan, but I love reading reviews of the books. Good luck with the challenge!

  6. I am kicking myself for not joining the Dystopian challenge, although my blog is less than a month old, so I did miss out on a lot this year. Thanks for visiting my blog.

    Happy Friday. Here's my Friday Post

  9. Wow! Go you with the reading! Have you ever found that it gets in the way of wordage? I tend to have to read very lightly when I'm working heavily on a WIP. Then I'm voraciously reading for a few weeks after finishing. That just seems to be the only way I can stay in my world and keep my head clear.

  10. Wow, that's a lot! Not sure how many books I've read this year so far. Maybe 15? Not even close to 50!

  11. Thanks all!
    JJ, still time left! :)
    Anita-I have to read while I write, if not I'll get bored and start to resent my WIP. I know, I'm bad.
